Hey Book Babes. This post is a bit late considering it’s already past mid October. However, in case you want to get some good Halloween/Fall vibes books in before the end of spooky season I thought I’d share my list of books I’m reading this year in October. I tried to mix in some Halloween RomCom styles with some Fantasy. There were also a handful of New Releases I absolutely had to get to so it’s kind of a hodge podge but I hope it gives you some inspiration for your spooky season reading!
Spooky Season Romance
I started off the month of October with Haunting Adeline & Haunting Adeline – it’s a duet by H.D. Carlton. I had heard so my hype about these that I couldn’t wait to read them. But Holy Sh*t y’all. These were crazy – amazing – but crazy. If you like a dark romance & can handle serious topics & violence then I definitely recommend these. The male main character, Zade, is so so good. He’s the darkest shade of gray on the morally gray scale but he has a good dark heart & I adored him.
After such a dark romance I decided to unwind with some books to get me in the mood to decorate & fully embrace Halloween vibes. I started with
The Ex Hex & The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling.
I loved these. They were super cute & reminded me of a Halloween Hallmark movie, but with spice. ๐คฃ. If you’re looking for more accurate witchy/occult vibes this isn’t it. This is more Bewitched/Halloweentown vibes than Coven. As long as that’s what you know you’re getting into – I highly recommend. The first one is good but the second one is *chefs kiss* absolutely delightful.
Then came an entire week of reading new releases. I am a huge Meghan Quinn fan & she released Runaway Groomsman on October 10th so obviously I read that by noon on the 11th. ๐คฃ๐คฃ – It was a quick, fun read. Meghan Quinn is always good for a spicy laugh out loud funny book! I flew through it so quickly I actually got to read Heartless by Elsie Silver on release day (Oct 14th) which was a followup to Flawless. So obviously I had to read Flawless right after Runaway Groomsman so I could read Heartless on release day. It did not disappoint. The MMC in it is ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Daddy Cade & his backwards ballcap did me in. ๐ฅต๐ฅต – you absolutely must read it.
In order to get back into my fall vibe I decided to try some not necessarily halloween themed books but ones that had titles that reminded me of this time of year. First up I read The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston. It frickin blew me away. I absolutely loved it. One of my top reads for the whole year. The whole thing was well written & so unique. I thought it would be hard to follow up but I started Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson after that & it was so good too. The cover has an old horror movie/comic book vibe that I absolutely loved too. I didn’t want it to end when I finished it.
I’d planned on starting the next thing on my TBR but because I’m totally a mood reader bookstagram got me & I decided I needed to read the new book Quarterback Sneak by Kandi Steiner. But of course it’s the third book in a series so I started with the first two books (Blind Side was ๐ฅต๐ฅต). I’ll write a review for Quarterback Sneak when I finish it. I’d never read any Kandi Steiner books but after these I will definitely be looking out for more by her!
Spooky Season Fantasy
Next up after I finish my sports romance series will be me finally reading the Shadow & Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. I don’t read a lot of YA books. Definitely not YA fantasy but I really want to check these out. Originally I just wanted to read the Six of Crows duology. Then of course the girl at my local Barnes&Noble was like “you can’t read these until you read Shadow & Bone!” …so obviously since I already bought Six of Crows I bought all three of the Shadow & Bone books. ๐คฃ๐คฃ I’ve seen some ads for the Netflix adaptation so I think after I finish the books I’ll check that out. After I finish these I plan to do the Six of Crows books. I think that will probably run me into November but I’m stoked for it none the less.
&& that sums it up. That’s my spooky season/October to read list. It started out as thirteen books but has now escalated to fifteen. LOL. I think I’ll probably end up reading the Six of Crows series in November because I have quite a bit going on the last few weeks of October but we’ll see. Sometimes I surprise myself. *laughingemoji* That’s probably how I’ve ended up at over 250 books read this year. haha.
Leave a comment below with your recommendations for some good cozy fall vibes books to add to my November TBR. & let me know what you thought if you’ve read any of the books above! I’d love to hear what you enjoyed or disliked!
— Until our next adventure, Lauren Brooke
