Synopsis
Makaria had left a dedicated life. Her entire existence had happened inside a temple of the primordial goddess Nyx. As the last surviving priestess she was dedicated to her routines in the temple. One morning while fufilling her duties she’s shocked to find Nyx there in the temple only to realize, she’s died & Nyx has a reward for her – Makaria is being given the gift of immortality. However it comes with a cost – she must prove herself worth of this gift in a years time or her shade would be erased & the man who would be her executioner if she failed would also be her teacher to help her into her new role as the Goddess of Blessed Death. Thanatos was by nature secluded & lonely. As the literal God of Death it made it very hard to get close to anyone. Sure, he had friends & family in the underworld but it was inherently a solitary immortal life. Well until his family delivers the news that he will now have a partner, the new goddess. Enraged that his family thinks he cannot do the job he was created to do he refuses to help the stunning Makaria find her way. But as always, the Fates have other plans. As Makaria comes into her own as a goddess Thanatos finds himself unable to stay away. With all their anxieties, fears & the troublesome Gods of Olympus to deal with the duo has no choice but to come together to keep the balance of the world. Will Thanatos accept help & learn to accept love? Will Makaria become worth enough to keep her immortality?
Only the Fates can tell.

I loved this story. The God of Death finding love?! Be still my heart. Thanatos was such a good MMC. His anxieties & fears felt relatable despite the fact that I am clearly not a Greek God. I also always enjoy a badass female heroine & Makaria does not disappoint. Her coming into her own story arc was *chefs kiss* excellent. I also adored another peek into the craziness that is the politics of Olympus. Such a fun intertwined story line.

This book switches from character to character POV. It reminded me of Dune in this way. I usually prefer just a standard alternating chapter dual POV but this was very well done. I did notice some grammar choices I didn’t love. However the chapters were nicely divided & despite there being A LOT going on it still managed to flow seamlessly.

Thanatos & Makaria have a very slow burn. It takes way too long for this man to get his sh*t together. But god once he gets her there – some of the things he says! *fans self* Yes. Please. Makaria certainly knows what her man likes. Delicious. Molly did an excellent job getting us all hot & bothered.

This was a great book. I am very glad I randomly found the author on bookstagram because this was such a good read. I absolutely loved the characters & the chaotic Olympian God drama. Molly also added some glimpses of moments you know in Greek history (like Aphrodite & Adonis) which was fun. The spice & story overall was really frickin good. Definitely recommend!

If you don’t follow Molly on instagram you are missing out. Her reels are too good. I followed her for a while before I realized she was an author. I saw her post about her new book coming out so obviously I had to check it out. Once I realized it was book 3 in a series & quickly got to reading so I could read this! Start with book one in the Asphodel series – Consort of Darkness. The series begins with Nyx & her husband Erebus’ journey to reconcile, win a war & save the world. The second book is about Hecate – Lost to Witchcraft. I adored Hecate & Aeetus. Their story set the bar high for makaria & Thanatos. Definitely recommend the whole series. I cannot wait for Hermes’ novella!
